The Brooklyn Nets are a .500 basketball team in the middle of the month of January. They are now 23-23 and undoubtedly coming off a huge win in Houston. So, how did the Nets get to become, well, good? Here’s three things.

The Brooklyn Nets are back! They are not back in a they are making in to the NBA Finals kind of way but they are back to being an actual NBA team.

23-23 is only a .500 record. It is literally mediocre. However, after coming off recent wins against the Celtics and Rockets, we have now seen more positives than negatives.

The Nets won just 28 games all season last year, so I am inclined to say they will easily eclipse that mark this year.

From the beginning, all I wanted to see was improvement. All the Nets had to do this year was improve their win total, even fractionally, and all would have been on-track.

However, Head Coach Kenny Atkinson has this team miles ahead of where it should realistically be.

For the first time since since 2013, the Nets are .500 or better by the end of day January 16th. This is already one of the best Nets teams in years.

Even though is might seem like it, this team getting to this spot did not happen over night. It took years of stockpiling talent and implementing a system.

The Nets have not even been tanking because they have not had many first round draft picks.

So, that is all the reason why even just this 23-23 record feels like they are almost undefeated. To me, it all still felt so far away.

The Nets still have a lot of work to do. They are still not a top five team in the East, have some money to spend but not yet, and are still building.

However, they are a good team. The playoffs are far away, but could have a stop in Brooklyn.

Here are three reasons why the Nets are finally .500 or better in January for the first time in six years.
