After signing Troy Tulowitzki last week, the New York Yankees added another infielder in DJ LeMahieu. How does LeMahieu’s signing affect the Yankees chances of getting Manny Machado?

The New York Yankees added another infielder to their roster on Friday and his name is DJ LaMahieu.

It wasn’t who people think will be signing with the Yankees, Manny Machado.

The free agent second baseman, DJ LeMahieu, has agreed to a deal with the Yankees. The deal is pending a physical.

According to ESPN, the deal is for two years and $24 million.

LeMahieu comes to the Yankees after seven seasons with the Colorado Rockies. Last year, he hit .276 with 15 home runs, 62 RBIs, 90 runs, and six stolen bases.

In his career, LeMahieu is hitting .298 with 49 home runs, 349 RBIs, 501 runs scored, and 75 stolen bases.

While with the Rockies, he was named an All-Star twice, won three Gold Glove awards, and the 2016 National League batting title.

LeMahieu is the latest infielder to go to the Yankees after they signed Troy Tulowitzki last week.

The Yankees have been going after infielders since Didi Gregorius is recovering from Tommy Jon surgery and isn’t expected to be back until the summer.

The Yanks have said that Tulowitzki will play shortstop.

So, what will the Yankees do with LeMahieu?

According to Jack Curry they will have him play first base, second base, and third base. LeMahieu is a great player and is a good addition to the Yankees.

But what does his signing mean for Manny Machado?

The Yankees have been linked to Manny Machado all offseason, that is no secret.

Machado met with the Yankees last month and Manny will supposedly choose his next team with the next week.

While the Chicago White Sox and the Philadelphia Philles have made offers to Machado, it is unknown if the Yankees have made Machado an offer.

Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia said on his podcast that he thinks that Machado could still end up with the Yankees (via Scott Chiusano of the New York Daily News)

"“I feel like the longer it goes on, the better chance we have. He’s not getting the offers he wants, it comes back around, and everything being even, how do you not sign with the Yankees? It’s hard for me to fathom coming to Yankee Stadium and seeing Yankee Stadium and not signing with us. I mean, it speaks for itself. The organization speaks for itself. The fact that we literally try to win every year speaks for itself.”"

C.C. isn’t the only Yankee pitcher that wants Machado to be a Yankee. Zach Britton told Mike Rosenstein of NJ.com that he hopes Machado becomes a Yankee.

"“Me and Manny keep in contact. He’s definitely sought after and rightfully so. He’s a good teammate and a better player. Anyone who gets him gets a special talent. He can help that team out … His defense is game-changing … He can change the game on both sides. Defensively and offensively. I hope he decides to go to New York … We’ve been in contact and I know he’ll make a good decision. I hope it gets made and he’s a New York Yankee.”"

While people want Machado to be a Yankee, the LeMahieu signing means that Manny won’t be a Yankee.

The Yankees infield now consist of LeMahieu, Tulowitzki, Gregorius, Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres, Luke Voit, and Greg Bird.

There’s just no room on the Yankees for Machado.

Now, the only way that the Yankees can get Machado is if they make a trade.

The only infielder that I could see the Yankees trading is Bird.

If they traded Bird, then Voit would play first base and they still would have no use for Machado.

While we don’t know what team Machado will choose, we now know that it most likely won’t be the Yankees. I would be surprised if he went to the Yankees now.
