New York Yankees: Three realistic goals for Giancarlo Stanton in 2019
Hit 45 homers, knock in 110 runs.
I can see it now. It could be super easy to look back on Stanton and think last year was horrible and want nothing to do with Stanton.
I also, however, would painfully disagree with that.
So, I will meet in the middle with this goal.
Last year, Stanton hit 38 home runs. That helped him have 100 RBIs on the dot.
So, if he can slightly increase those numbers, that would be a heck of a season and it would make him more of an asset to the Yanks.
The Yankees did win 100 games last season and it was in large part to them hitting more home runs as a team than anybody in MLB history.
That is quite the accomplishment and will likely break their own record some time within the next few seasons, if not in 2019.
Stanton could be part of that.
Stanton has given me reasons to believe he will improve his home run totals. Of course, this is all assuming he stays healthy, which I will briefly get into later.
In his career, Stanton has never hit less than 20 home runs in a season. To make that more significant, when playing in more than 120 games, he has never hit less than 34.
So, when out there he will reach that milestone.
However, when throwing in being more familiar with Yankee Stadium, and its hostile environment, he might do just enough to improve that number.
With more home runs, will come more RBIs so that is where I got that number from.
Overall, if Stanton can hit these numbers, and he could even do better than these numbers, will you Yankees fans finally see it?
Sure, he has huge lapses in his game and is just another right-handed power hitter, but that is okay.
He is still a rare talent and does exactly what the Yankees want him to, hit a lot of home runs.
We can’t ask the world of Stanton, and the Yankees don’t need the world from Stanton to win.
He needs to do just enough, and only do a little bit better to prove he belongs.
This goal would reflect exactly that.
