New York Mets: Three realistic goals for Michael Conforto in 2019
2019 All-Star
I like to believe that it if it could be done once, it could be done again.
It is probably one of the most difficult things to do in sports, but Michael Conforto can be an MLB All-Star again.
To start, the Mets as a team are already going to be going into 2019 with a lot more buzz and hype surrounding them.
By adding Robinson Cano, Edwin Diaz, Wilson Ramos, there is some real star power here now.
Plus, they ended 2018 hot. The Mets were one of the best teams in baseball post All-Star game last year.
With more attention, comes higher odds to be recognized on a national platform, which brings higher odds to have more All-Stars. That helps Conforto who hits a lot of home runs and is fun to watch.
In 2019, Conforto can return to the mid-summer classic because he could be playing well and be a familiar name in the Mets lineup.
What is also going for Conforto is his number will likely be better because the team is. The Mets will get higher averages from the players around Conforto.
Players like Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano, Brandon Nimmo, and Wilson Ramos, all being guys who get on base more, that helps “Forts” too.
When Conforto was named an All-Star in 2017 it was glorious. It felt like it was early on in his career, but did not feel like a fluke.
It just felt like the first of many.
In 2019, Conforto has a realistic chance to prove my belief, that it was not a fluke and that it will be the second of hopefully many more.
All it might take is a slight upgrade/more consistent pace in his numbers and the Mets being a little better. Both of those things are likely to happen.
He still has that sweet swing, so something has got to give, right?
