New York Mets: Three realistic goals for Michael Conforto in 2019

40 home runs.

This is a number that I kind of came up with randomly, but a 40 home run season would be incredible for Conforto in 2019.

Not only would that be enough for him to likely lead the Mets again, it would be enough to help the Mets win more games because they struggled to hit home runs as team last season having the 21st most.

Conforto missed some time last season, and had a long home run drought. Yet, he was still good enough to lead the Mets.

However, that was only enough to be tied for 30th in the MLB in home runs. Again, that is not terrible, but Conforto can do it.

This all comes back to Conforto being able to keep it all together for an entire season. He could have reached this pace last season had he hit more early on.

He was rolling in 2017 before his injury ended his season abruptly.

If Conforto can play in 150 games again, but this time he will not be coming off shoulder surgery, he could start hot and maintain a pace throughout the whole season, then he can roll through all months of the year and not just some.

Although he might not hit exactly 40, he could hit more, and has yet to even hit 30 in a season, he could still aim to hit 40.

That would be enough to put him in, probably, around the top five in all of the MLB because in 2018, only three players hit 40 or more.

Realistically, I am expecting around 35 home runs and 90 RBIs for Conforto. He will have an entire offseason of baseball coming into 2019. No injuries, no rehab.

He ended 2018 strong with nine home runs in the month of September and stayed healthy all year.

If he can carry that right over into 2019 to start and finish the year, he could truly emerge as an elite power hitter in this league.

35 is realistic, but 40 should be the number to set as the goal, it’s possible.
