The 2018 New York Mets

2018 was a wasted year for the Mets. At the moment, there seems to be no clear path.

The New York Mets were among the bottom tier of teams in 2018 finishing the season at 77-85.

However, there was one star in a season that seemed like nothing could go right.

Noah Syndergaard had a great season boasting a 3.03 ERA with 12 wins and only five losses.

Jacob deGrom won the 2018 NL Cy Young, as the best pitchers in baseball.

Anyway, the Mets already look to be improving for the 2019 season with their recent moves.

The Mets traded Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak and Gerson Bautista plus a couple of prospects to the Mariners for Robinson Cano, and Edwin Diaz.

This will help the Mets for the foreseeable future giving them a reliever in Diaz and a power hitter/defender in Cano.

While just two players might not be the difference between 77 wins one season and playoffs the next, it is a step in the right direction.

The Mets didn’t have anyone capable of carrying the team last season but they seem to have gotten that in Robinson Cano.

At this moment in time, the Cano/Diaz trade is the only move the Mets have made in the 2018 offseason.

But, with a plethora of free agents still available, the Mets might be able to reel in another player to help Cano and the Mets.

Top moment

So in a year that didn’t seem to have many good memories, what was the top moment?

The Mets top moment of 2018 came without a doubt on September 29th. On September 29th David Wright would suit up in orange and blue, one last time.

Wright was the captain and leader of the Mets for years but he hadn’t played really at all in the last two and a half seasons.

So, the press conference on September 13th when the Mets announced Wright’s plan for the remainder of the season excited Mets fans and baseball fans alike.

Wright has been the face of the Mets for years and being able to see him play one last time was exciting to baseball fans around the world.

Being able to celebrate the man who has done everything right his entire career was the bright moment in a dark season.
