The New York Jets lost 38-3 to the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon in New England. Here is likely the final recap of Todd Bowles tenure.
The New York Jets 2018 season is in the books and the final record is 4-12. The result on Sunday was hardly unexpected.
New England was playing for a first round bye. The win guarantees next week off. We talked in the preview about praying that the game would be close.
Those prayers weren’t answered.

After a couple of three and outs early, the game got moving quickly.
The first quarter ended 7-3, but it got ugly in the second quarter. Tom Brady‘s second and third touchdown passes, one to Rex Burkhead and one to Phillip Dorsett, extended the lead to 21-3.
New England did not look back.
The Jets never got anything going in this one. The Patriots added a defensive touchdown in the third quarter on a Kyle Van Noy fumble recovery return.
38-3 was the final score.
There wasn’t much to fault Sam Darnold on in this one. He didn’t throw a pick once again which was a great sign.
He finished the year with 17 touchdowns vs. 15 interceptions. On Sunday he went 16-28 for 167 yards and had the one big 28 yard scramble. The only blemish was the sack fumble.
Darnold can’t be blamed for the fact that weapons like Quincy Enunwa and Jermaine Kearse were inactive for the contest. He can only throw to the players on the field.
The defense had a rough go of it, but with all of the players missing in the secondary it really isn’t shocking that Tom Brady exploited them. 250 passing yards and four touchdowns is about as dominant as a guy can be.
Essentially it was another entry into what was a rough year in 2018. The defensive guru couldn’t come up with a game plan that could hold the Patriots down by any stretch. 375 yards of net offense was hardly a surprise for this unit.
All in all, it’s disappointing to see that score. Whether you were looking for the team to tank or not, losing to THAT team by THAT much is always disappointing. I think if we all look inside ourselves we can admit we hate losing to those guys.
One day we will take over. That quarterback can’t play forever. At least I don’t think he can.
But all things considered, Darnold played well and that is a good sign. The last four weeks of the season have been incredibly encouraging. He has a very bright future ahead of him.
That was the goal for 2018 and we saw that through. 2019 and forward has a lot of potential, if they get the coaching situation right.
