The Brooklyn Nets withstood a valiant effort by the Charlotte Hornets in double OT on Wednesday night for their 17th win of the season. The 17th win at this point in the year is the first time in over a decade that’s happened.
The Brooklyn Nets got a full-team effort to beat the Charlotte Hornets at home on Wednesday night and sit 17-19 on the NBA Season.
The Nets’ record is solid enough to be just one game out of the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference by the time Wednesday nights game went final.
The Nets, once again, were led by Spencer Dinwiddie. Who has been on a roll lately.
But, the Nets also got 27 from Joe Harris to win it in double OT.
As a whole, the Nets have won nine of their last 10 games. That is best record in the league during the span.
But, the 17 wins overall is very significant. This Nets team has done something that has not been done since the 2005-2006 season, over a decade ago.
For the first time since 2005-2006, the Nets have 17 wins before New Year's. That starting lineup consisted of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins and Nenad Krstic.

Yes, it is true that the NBA season use to start much later and less game would have been played, but the fact that the Nets still have not had this many wins since they moved to Brooklyn is still historical.
The Nets have had decent seasons in Brooklyn and seen the playoffs, but those teams had such small windows to succeed that when it didn’t happen right away, it was over.
Right now, the Nets are trying to build something special, not just get to the playoffs.
Even this year, they were not supposed to be good, just better.
But now, they are off to one of the best starts ever. I don’t care how many more games were played this year, it still has done been yet under the new schedule and in a while.
The Nets have just been so terrible, and barely winning 17 games in a season. They only won 20 all year just two years ago.
That 2005-2006 Nets team did go on to win the Division. This Nets team simply will not do that for they are not that talented.
There are, however, still similarities between the teams. Now, Richard Jefferson does the TV broadcasts for the Nets on the YES Network and is a commentator.
Much Like Nenad Krstic is from Europe, so were both of this year’s draft picks in Dznan Musa and Rodions Kurucs.
Jason Kidd is the best Nets player ever and an elite point guard.
While D’Angelo Russell might never be that or be close, he is someone who could be point guard for a long-time and be an integral part in many playoff runs like Kidd.
I understand that some of this seems like a stretch, but a lot of this has a correlation.
This Nets team is actually winning games which many teams recently before this never really did.
Much like those early 2000s Nets teams were winning games much like the Nets teams before them never really did.
There is a long season to go. But to slowly see the Nets chip away to get back to things they used to do in the days where they were a playoff every year is encouraging.
There is nothing guaranteed in terms of making the playoffs this year. Even though the Nets are currently playing like a playoff team.
It’s just that this team is one pace to drastically turn the page from the struggling, recent dark past, and really start taking a leap into what should be a bright future.
The best part is, the Nets still have a chance to win two more games before the New Year. That stat could be the stat that keeps on giving.
Also, fun fact if the Nets do win both those games, and go 19-19, it it will be the first time they are .500 record or better since being 16-15 on New Years Day in 2013.
That team made the playoffs. So, there is hope this year’s team can too.
