Should the New York Giants draft Dwayne Haskins or Jonah Williams?
It’s no secret that the New York Giants have quite a few problems that need fixing, but which problem needs to be fixed first in the NFL Draft?
The New York Giants have a chance to draft either a fantastic offensive tackle out of Alabama, or a Heisman finalist quarterback from Ohio State.
Both Jonah Williams and Dwayne Haskins are fantastic options.
But, which is the better choice?
The Giants have a pretty horrible offensive line, but they also have an aging quarterback in Eli Manning.
So, each one needs to be fixed, but which is more important?
On one side, a better offensive line could allow Saquon Barkley to be even more explosive (crazy I know).
Also, drafting an offensive line would help immediately while a quarterback would likely sit on the bench for at least one year, and maybe two or three.
Eli Manning has been sacked 46 times this season, yes 46 times you read that right.
He gets sometimes less than three seconds before he has to get rid of the ball because the offensive line can’t stop anyone.
This being said, drafting someone like Jonah Williams out of Alabama could do wonders for Eli and the Giants.
Williams was arguably the best offensive lineman on a stacked Alabama team that allowed Tua Tagovailoa to have a fantastic season helping the Tide Roll to another undefeated regular season.
In drafting Jonah Williams, you are getting a 6’5″ 301 pound player who is NFL ready.
Williams protected Tua Tagovailoa from some of the best defensive linemen in the country such as Jeffery Simmons who is a surefire first rounder this year.
If the Giants draft Jonah Williams, they are getting an explosive offensive linemen who will protect Eli Manning and any other quarterback the Giants may get in the future.
On the other hand, Dwayne Haskins is a fantastic player and he might be the best quarterback the Giants could get over the next couple seasons.
Haskins threw for 4,580 yards, 47 touchdowns and eight interceptions with a 70.2 completion percentage in 2018.
Of the three Heisman finalists, Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa and Dwayne Haskins, Haskins is arguably the most NFL ready quarterback of the bunch.
His 6’3″ 220 pound frame and his cannon of an arm will allow him to be one of the best, if not the best quarterback in this year’s draft.
2018 was Haskins’ first year as a starter and he showed rapid growth throughout the season. This shows you that Haskins is always learning and he is always changing for the better. These are key attributes in an NFL prospect because it shows you he will always be bettering himself.
Haskins is in my opinion the best quarterback in this draft and he has the potential to turn around any NFL team that drafts him.
Other quarterbacks in this draft include Daniel Jones, Justin Herbert, Will Grier and Ryan Finley.
So if the Giants were to draft Williams over Haskins, they could still potentially get a great quarterback in the second round.
Who do you think the Giants should draft and why? Let me know in the comments below.
