New York Giants: 3 players who need to step up the most in Odell Beckham Jr.’s absence
Sterling Shepard
Sterling Shepard does not need to only step up without Odell in the lineup, he needs to step up and bring a big game in general.
He is easily the most obvious name that comes to mind for the opposition when they hear they will not have to worry about Shepard.
He has done next to nothing for quite some time now. Yeah, he had a TD vs the Redskins, but almost everyone on the Giants did and he only had one other reception.
Shepard has only gone over 100 yards receiving in a game once this year. It was the Monday night game in Atlanta in Week 7.
Guess what?
Since that breakout game, he has yet to even eclipse the 50 yard receiving mark.
He is due for a massive game soon. He was having a solid year up and through the Atlanta game before this massive fall off.
It might have nothing to do with Odell because he has been useless with our without him.
But, vs the Colts a big game would do wonders for him. He needs to be the guy who steps up. He is the other top wideout on this team.
He needs to go back to being a weapon. He needs to be a hassle for the Colts this way even other players can benefit from him.
But, without Shepard stepping up, there are literally no deep threats for Eli, or whoever may play QB.
Shepard is talented, but I just need to see more. He is being given a chance to emerge as number one receiver in this league.
Shepard could either be a great two when Odell is healthy, or can emerge now and do whatever he pleases down the road.
Shepard needs to have a massive game. It could happen against the Cowboys next week, but if he does it twice that would be better for everyone.
Step up, Shep.
