The New York Mets have talked about possibly getting free agent third baseman Mike Moustakas. They should go after him because he would be a great fit.

The New York Mets have talked about the possibility of signing free agent Mike Moustakas.

When Brodie Van Wagenen became the new general manager of the Mets, he said that his focus would be making the Mets winners now.

With the moves the Mets have made so far, they could be a winning team in 2019.

So far, Van Wagenen has signed second baseman Robinson Cano, closer Edwin Diaz, brought back Jeurys Familia, and signed catcher Wilson Ramos.

So what will the Mets next move be?

It could be adding free agent third baseman Mike Moustakas.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets have discussed the idea of getting Moustakas.

Moustakas was talked about as a third base option, which means that Todd Frazier would move to first base, which would allow the Mets to put rookie Peter Alonso into the lineup.

However, the Mets might not be able to get Moustakas because of the Ramos signing.

The Ramos signing puts the Mets projected payroll for next year over $150 million.

However, Van Wagenen told Puma that they could take on additional payroll.

"“I am not going to give specifics of what it can go up to, but we do have the ability to take on additional payroll. We are hoping and expecting that [Yoenis] Cespedes will come back and be another impact right-handed bat for us. Being able to have [Ramos] be the middle guy that can keep us a little bit above water on that side of the plate until Cespedes comes back, we’ll look at all options, but it’s a little premature to determine if we will be limited to right-handed or left-handed or outfield at all given the presence of [Jeff] McNeil on the roster.”"

Moustakas would be a great addition for the Mets because he gives them another power bat.

This year, he hit .251 with 28 home runs and 95 RBIs.

Moustakas is a powerful guy and could help the Mets win games and be a winning team.

The only downside to getting Moustakas would be he struggles a little getting on base.

This year, he had a OBP of .315, but he has a career OBP of .307. The Mets don’t need a guy that has trouble getting on base, but if Moustakas can get on base more, then he would be a great fit.

After the Ramos signing, Van Wagenen told Matthew Cerrone of SNY that the Mets are the favorites in the NL East.

“We believe we’re the favorites in the division.”

Are you kidding me?

Clearly Van Wagenen is delusional.

Yes, the Mets are a better team than last year with the moves they have made so far, but that doesn’t mean that they will or can win the division.

What’s next?

Does Van Wagenen say the Mets will win the NL East if they add Moustakas?

Next. Let's not forget about this Mets player who can help them in 2019. dark

The Mets should go after Moustakas because he would be a great fit and Van Wagenen needs to stop being delusional.
