The New York Yankees have made it clear that Manny Machado is the number one free agent target this offseason. But what happens next if they do reel him in?

The New York Yankees and Manny Machado will meet on Wednesday yet again with the hopes of getting a deal done.

Manny Machado is one of two free agents who will sign deals worth over $300 million, the other being Bryce Harper.

If you bring in a player like Manny Machado it means you need to make some changes elsewhere.

The question then becomes, what changes will the Yankees make?

Machado has made it clear on multiple occasions that he will only be signing with a team where he will be the shortstop, not the third baseman like he was in Baltimore for several years.

The only problem with that is that the Yankees currently have Didi Gregorius at short who has been fantastic when it came to filling the hole Derek Jeter left behind.

Machado is clearly a better player than Gregorius, but that’s besides the point. Unlike Machado who will want about $30 million a year, Gregorius is owed only $12.4 million in 2019.

Gregorius, who underwent Tommy John surgery back in October is expected to be out until around the All-Star Break.

So this being said, it makes some sense for the Yankees to go after Manny Machado and the $300 million it will cost to reel him in.

The Yankees getting Manny would be an overall asset to the teams. However, like brining in any great player, it means some things will have to be shuffled around.

This is particularly the case for the Yankees who want Manny, but don’t have the positional need for him.

So, here is what could happen if the Yanks and Manny agree to a deal!
