Coach Quinn is fine.

It is hard to analyze just how well I think Coach David Quinn is doing. He inherited a team that just began a rebuild and whose best player is a goalie defying age and logic.

But, I’ll get into Henrik Lundqvist later.

In my previous slide, I noted how a major takeaway from the Rangers season so far was their recent failure to win one goal games and losing a lot in overtime.

So, what I wanted to save for this slide, was just how impressive even getting to overtime with this roster this much is.

Coach Quinn was not exactly dealt the best card, but he might be the best card player. He knew his job was to help the system get deeper and work with what he has.

He is doing a fine job.

At the time of this writing, the Rangers have just two defense men with a positive rating. One of them is Fredrik Claesson who has played just 19 games.

The other is Chris Kreider who has just a +1. The rest of the defense men are all in the negative.

Say what you want about the NHL keeping track of the +/- stat, but you would be lying if you said that most of the defense men being on the ice giving up so many goals is not alarming.

Now for the offense, the Rangers have zero players averaging one point per game.

So, David Quinn is shuffling his lines around a lot. He essentially has no defense and no consistent production.

Yet, he has the Rangers as a team averaging over a point per game and in a lot of close games this season.

Only time will tell if this type of style, this get a little something from everyone and hope for some luck style, is sustainable and if the Rangers can keep it up.

But, the fact that Coach Quinn has the Rangers looming this late in the season is saying something.

This is the worst Rangers team on paper in a long time.

But somehow, there is a solid chance the Rangers make it a game any given night with no forward being a true and perennial scorer.

That, my friends, is because of coaching.
