The Sam  Darnold Chronicles

More from Empire Writes Back

OK so I came up with the name on the fly. It works.

Sam Darnold played one of his best games of his rookie season against the Texans on Saturday. Here is his final stat line:

  • 24-38, 253 yards, two touchdowns, 100 rating, six rushes, 35 yards

There is nothing there to be disappointed in, especially considering the defense he was facing.

Darnold was able to stare down the likes of J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney and put in that type of performance.

Without even watching the game he gets a good grade for how he looked on the afternoon.

But the “eye” test makes the performance that much better.

Darnold was sacked three times, twice by Watt. However, he never got “happy feet”. He never got nervous in the pocket. He remained confident and was able to lead his team down the field to take a late lead.

Even on the penultimate drive when the Jets were down four, Darnold gave them a chance to win. The fourth and 14 throw to Robby Anderson gave them a chance to move the sticks and continue the drive. It was also in Anderson‘s hands.

Great day by Darnold.
