The New York Mets and New York Yankees rarely ever make trades. But this offseason, there is plenty of reasons why they should this winter.
Both the New York Yankees and New York Mets are in the midst of a win-now offseason.
The Mets have already made one blockbuster trade, acquiring Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz from the Mariners in a six player deal.
Meanwhile, the Yankees have been connected to names like Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, and Patrick Corbin before he signed with the Washington Nationals.
With both teams needing to make big moves to compete for a World Series crown in 2019, the Mets and Yankees have been linked in recent days with rumors swirling of a potential three team trade with the Miami Marlins.
Let’s forget about the Marlins for a second.
While the Mets need a catcher, and J.T. Realmuto is the best option available on the market, they could always sign a catcher in free agency such as Wilson Ramos or Yasmani Grandal.
What if the Mets and Yankees, who historically have been extremely reluctant to make deals with each other, put together a potential blockbuster deal?
It’s pretty much never been done before, so it would be interesting to see how it unfolded.
That is why I cooked up a trade in my mind that would fans all the way from Queens to the Bronx.
Essentially, you would be swapping two of the leagues primer young starting pitchers with some of the best pure stuff in the game.
In addition, you’d be swapping two young infielders who are under team control for a long time. Severino has four years left under control and Syndergaard has three, while Andujar has five and McNeil has six.
This deal makes perfect sense for both sides.
Let’s start with the Yankees first.
