The New York Yankees are still going after Manny Machado. With the Yankees not interested in Bryce Harper, Machado will most likely sign with the Yankees.

As baseball’s Winter meetings continue, the writing on the wall is making it clearer that Manny Machado will sign with the New York Yankees.

But, right at this moment, there are talks about a blockbuster deal between the Yankees, New York Mets, and the Miami Marlins that would send Noah Syndergaard to the Yankees and J.T. Realmuto to the Mets.

While we wait to see if that deal happens or not, the Yankees are working on getting what they need.

Bryce Harper is one of the biggest free agents this offseason. Naturally, the Yankees were looking at Harper but are no longer interested in him.

However, the Yankees are interested in this offseason’s other big free agent, Manny Machado.

Here’s what Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said about Machado on Monday, per Coley Harvey of ESPN:

"“We were definitely focused in the marketplace on those areas of need [shortstop], and he obviously is available and solves that area of need. So not going to deny we’ve had a conversation or two.”"

Cashman also said that he and Dan Lozano, Machado’s agent, talked before the winter meetings began.

The Yankees, along with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago White Sox, will meet shortly after the winter meetings, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.

The Yankees have been interested in Machado for some time now.

They could use Machado since they will start next year without shortstop Didi Gregorius and Machado could play short until Didi returns.

Machado could move to third base when Gregorius returns.

This year, Machado hit .297 with 37 home runs and had 107 RBIs.

He would be a great addition to the Yankees.

Former Yankee and current ESPN analyst Mark Teixeira told Byran Hoch of MLB.com that he thinks adding Machado could make the Yankees the best team in baseball.

"“I think Manny has really handled himself well this offseason, admitting that he shouldn’t have said. It might have been some semantics, and understanding that in the heat of the moment, he probably said some things he shouldn’t have. I think the Yankees can get past that. It sounds like they’ve gotten past that. If you sign Manny Machado, you might be the best team in baseball.”"

I have written that the Yankees shouldn’t go after Machado because he’s got a bad attitude and doesn’t hustle.

However, I think that Machado will end up with the Yankees.

It is unknown who the Yankees will give up if the blockbuster deal I mentioned in the beginning happens.

If it does happen, they will probably give up Miguel Andujar, who they are open to trading, according to Ken Rosenthal.

If the Yankees trade Andujar then I think that Machado will definitely go to the Yankees and he would play third base while Gleyber Torres plays short until Didi returns.

As the winter meetings go on, the Mets still have time for one more thing. light. Related Story
