XFL New York: 5 names that would be awesome for the upcoming team

The Skyliners

My actual number one choice to call the New York XFL team set to debut in 2020 would have been to call them the “Empire” no “s.” Something like the New York Empire.

But, that is already a tennis team based in Queens which is quite fascinating.

So, I settled for the “Skyliners” the correlation here is too obvious. For one, even if they went the route to use the name “New Jersey” instead of New York, the Skyliners would still make sense.

You can see the iconic New York Skyline from Met Life Stadium where they play, so that works too.

But, even if they called themselves the “New York” so and so, then Skyliners works as well.

What exactly is a Skyliner? Well, that is kind of the point. It is one of a kind and really just the proper way to name them after the iconic New York City skyline.

Everyone from afar, coming into New York from multiple directions can see the Skyline. But, the best is, like I said you can see it from Met Life.

It is one of the nicest things to see from a stadium and one of the reasons why the stadium is located where it is.

There is a musical group called “The Skyliners” so that could be an issue in theory, but like I said this is just all for fun.

Another name I was thinking about going with was the “Megastars.” Mostly because it is more generic.

But because New York is a Megacity and because famous people from New York, or being famous in New York makes you a “megastar.”

But, at the end of the day I liked the Skyliners the best. It works, just flows. Can make up some kind of nickname for them down the road.

Also, they can find a way to make the logo include the Empire State Building or something much like the Washington Capitals have the Capitol Building mixed in with one of their logos.

Quite frankly, coming up with a name was very difficult. It is harder than you think. There are so many New York/New Jersey teams already that a lot are taken.

Also, you want to consider everyone who you would want going to your games. The entire city of people and the market, not just one specific place.

So, the Skyliners works because it means multiple things.

Now, all they have to decide is what to actually call it.

Are they sticking with the “New York” or  going with “New Jersey?”

Or, are they going to try to pull off the double “New Jersey/New York” name like their last XFL team the New Jersey/New York Hitmen.

Either way, it is exciting to be getting another team. It was a no-brainer and it could be nice to get a football fix in the spring time.
