New York Giants: 3 things to watch for this Sunday vs the Redskins- Sanchez vs Eli
Mark Sanchez vs Eli Manning
Okay, you cannot talk about football and teams without being able to have at least some sort of rational thought on the quarterback(s).
But us here at EWB, a New York sports blog, it is IMPOSSIBLE to not find this week’s QB matchup totally awesome? awful? I don’t know exactly how to describe it, but it is a thing.
A Mark Sanchez vs Eli Manning game is happening in 2018. This is real life and not some kind of prank.
The once Jets QB, the QB who most recently led them to the playoffs, and Eli Manning, who is Eli Manning are squaring up in an NFL football game.
If this were 2010 I would be going ballistic right now.
The fact that this is happening, granted well behind its time, but still happening again is truly wild.
What is even more bizarre, is that there are some kind of implications to this game.
But, back to the Giants.
If Eli Manning, who has been, and this is even a reach, mediocre this year, cannot out-play Mark Sanchez, who recently spent time out the NFL, that is going to be a massive problem.
Eli has already been losing some pep in his step. He is already starting to look like his best, or even good, days are well behind him.
Giants have sprinkled in a few wins here and there the last five weeks, but not because of Eli Manning.
But, he gets a Mulligan here. He keeps getting these ridiculous QB matchups against him.
First it was Nick Mullens in San Francisco. Then it was both Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick vs the Bucs, and most recently Chase Daniels vs the Bears.
If you look at all the times Eli was opposite an actual NFL QB this year, it has been ugly. Even Deshaun Watson in Week 3 was still fresh off ACL surgery.
Yet, here we are once again with Eli. He is the worst he has ever been, yet still constantly the best QB on the field.
I’d be taking all the Giants wins with a pinch of salt if I were you anyway, but if on Sunday, Eli cannot out play Mark Sanchez there will be a serious problem only Kyle Lauletta can solve.
That would be the icing on the cake of what we already knew, he is done.
However, Eli is likely to play better than Sanchez and the Giants will once again go back to Eli.
But, for now, just enjoy the comedy show that is Mark Sanchez quarterbacking an NFL game. I’m not disliking the guy, but he is not very good.
The Redskins are lucky they have a stout defensive front, a great offensive line, and a strong running game.
The less Sanchez has to do with the actual football the better.
At least that is easier said than done. The Giants could easily make Sanchez look elite much like they last week made Chase Daniels looks like Tom Brady in the clutch.
Or even worse, Eli Manning can make himself look, ironically, like Mark Sanchez.
Take this QB match up with a pinch of salt, Giants fans.
It is a loss for Eli either way.
He literally beats Sanchez which isn’t impressive, or he loses to Mark Sanchez which is more impressive in the worst way.
But, this is by the far the biggest story in this game.
Send help. I doubt I will be able to get through this.
