New York Giants: 3 things to watch for this Sunday vs the Redskins- Sanchez vs Eli
Out-of-town scoreboard
As long as the Giants take care of the Redskins, which is much easier said than done, the Giants can be the beneficiaries of other games across the league this week.
To please everybody, this could work one of two ways.
For fans who are still optimistic the Giants can win the Division, you should root for the Cowboys Eagles game to have a specific result.
Since the Giants still play the Cowboys, the Giants should be rooting for the Eagles to win that game.
Why? Because even though the Giants have not beaten the Eagles in both their matchups this week, the Eagles can beat the Cowboys and that would put them at both 7-6 on the season.
If the Giants win, they will be 5-8, just two games out of the division with the Cowboys at home still left to play.
What could also help the Giants, in a more long-shot less direct way is if teams like the Seahawks, Panthers, Vikings, and Packers lose.
That would tighten up the NFC Wildcard race, and with a win, we could somehow throw the Giants into that mix as well.
It is safe to say 8-8 will not be good enough to make the playoffs in any way, shape, or form, but crazier things have happened.
Now, for those who are focused on the 2019 Draft, I got you.
The Giants could lose and put them at 4-9. That is obviously more shameful than 4-8.
The Giants should be rooting hard for Cardinals to beat the Lions, the Browns to beat the Panthers, the 49ers to beat the Broncos, the Jets to beat the Bills, the Falcons to beat the Packers (works both ways for the Draft sake,) and the Bengals to lose to the Chargers.
There are even more games that could swing either way depending on what you want the Giants to aim for in terms of an end goal here.
But, with the above results, the Giants could be one game closer? Or farther? I don’t know, to the NFL’s worse record.
Some teams are horrific but 4-12, or even 5-11 with some help, could land the Giants a juicy top five draft pick.
Either way, we are at the point in the season where watching the Giants is more fun when watching the out-of-town games as well.
The Giants do not control their own destiny for the playoffs or earning the number one pick so they need help from other teams to get there.
‘Tis the season to be fans of other teams as well.
