New York Jets: Why the Jets should consider hiring Mike McCarthy

The Jets have rookie Sam Darnold as their quarterback.

Darnold hasn’t played since he strained his right foot on November 4. Jets head coach Todd Bowles told reporters on Sunday that Darnold was healthy enough to play despite the fact that he was inactive.

So will Darnold play on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills?

Bowles has said that remains to be seen but said that Darnold will practice on Wednesday and they’ll evaluate him as he practices.

Bowles also told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News:

"“He had a great number of reps (in practice last week) and he was prepared. But you’re not going to (practice) three days as a rookie and be fresh off your reads and not have any rust to go in a ball game and play on Sunday after you’ve been out for (three) weeks. You need some time to get your timing back. So, we’ll continue to give him reps. When I think he’s ready, he’ll play.”"

It seems that Darnold will play against the Bills on Sunday unless he were to get injured or not do very well in practice.

So far this season, Darnold has completed 68.5 percent of his passes, thrown for 1,934 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Darnold can get better and the Jets need a head coach that can make Darnold better and reach his potential.

It’s obvious that Bowles can’t do that but I think that McCarthy would be able to.

McCarthy has worked a lot with Aaron Rodgers. There were highs and lows to that relationship, but only lows once Rodgers reached mega-stardom.

Darnold is still young and has plenty to learn and McCarthy proved he will succeed at helping groom him.

This would help the one player on the Jets who should be of highest priority, Sam Darnold.
