The New York Jets follow the script they have followed all season long as they fall late to the Tennessee Titans, 26-22 and lose their sixth straight.
We have seen this movie with the New York Jets all season long. But yet, they subjected us to it just one more time in losing their sixth straight, this time to the Tennessee Titans.
The Jets started out like gangbusters, rolling out to a 16-0 lead in the second quarter, on the back of three Jason Myers field goals. They even put up a defensive touchdown on the pick six by Trumaine Johnson.
Most of the fan base was shocked beyond belief to see Johnson make a play. He has been bad all year long, the surprise wasn’t exactly unwarranted.

But in Jets fashion, they fell apart. The problem was the 16-0 lead.
What do I mean? I just said they started like gangbusters.
They did, but they couldn’t finish drives. Each drive stalled either in the red zone or just outside the red zone.
If the Jets had substituted even one field goal for a touchdown in the first half, it would have been 20-0 and the game could have had a different feel.
Instead it was 16-0, and the Titans added a touchdown late in the half to change the momentum and make the score 16-6.
The Jets were 0-3 in the red zone. They are last in the league in red zone offense for a reason. That is never going to cut it.
Don’t score touchdowns, don’t win games. It’s a pretty simple formula.
In the second half, the defense did all they could to keep the team ahead. They didn’t allow a touchdown until the one that gave the Titans the lead and the win.
In the end, the defense couldn’t make up for the offense and its incompetence. They didn’t score an offensive touchdown. That is not the level of an NFL team, period.
There were times when Jeremy Bates called a better game. At points in the contest he got creative. But he got too conservative when it counted. At 22-16, the Jets go three and out. The same at 22-19.
When he needed to make something happen to put the game away he came up with conservative, short passes that the Titans were waiting for.
The Jets are now 3-9 with really no end in sight. At least it is likely that Sam Darnold returns for the game against Buffalo next week.
We need SOME reason to watch, don’t we?
