New York City FC: Most Memorable Moments in David Villa’s NYCFC Career

This is my favorite soccer goal of all time. Take all of your Messi goals where he dances through the defense, or Ronaldo’s aerial prowess. This goal is better than all of them.

The quality of this video is bad, but the quality of the play is unrivaled.

Lets break the play down. Villa is jostling for the ball, it what seems like a meager turn over in possession. Villa’s wherewithal to look up, while moving, and place the ball perfectly from mid-field is mind-blowing.

This doesn’t count that he had two defenders on him throughout the play. Being able to kick the ball in the perfect spot, from 50 yard out has to incorporate sorcery of some sort.

We’re going to miss these magic plays from Villa. When things seemed lost for New York City FC, it was always the captain that came through in the clutch.

David Villa might not be officially retiring, but his time in New York is coming to an end. He is an absolute soccer legend who helped make NYCFC relevant right from the start.

He read the writing on the wall and both sides are ready to part ways and without each other, but what a journey is has been for Villa and the boys in blue.

This is not goodbye forever, just for now. You can officially never write the history of soccer in New York without this man.
