New York City FC: Most Memorable Moments in David Villa’s NYCFC Career
By Sam Friedman
Villa Nets his 400th
This goal is my favorite moment in NYCFC history.
What an absolute class act. Maybe not the greatest way to score the 400th goal, but the celebration is just amazing.
Sprinting over to all the fans in the corner, kissing the logo on his jersey that everyone seemed to be wearing, almost brought a tear to my eye.
Quickly, can you name the other soccer players, world-wide, who currently have 400+ goals for both club and country?
The company is extremely elite, and a major accomplishment for Villa.
He is joined by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Samuel Eto’o, Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. That’s it.
One can say that a huge portion of Villa’s goals came in the MLS, and the competition isn’t that good, blah blah blah.
400 goals is 400 goals.
Villa being able to net this goal at home was icing on the cake.
Villa bared through the toughest of times with NYCFC.
The first season from hell where players were getting serious minutes, who shouldn’t be near the field. Followed by the Frank Lampard chronicles, barely playing any time in New York.
Villa deserved to have this one come in New York, to celebrate with the fans that had his back since day 1.
