Keep this stat green

I really do hate to say something a little obvious again, but it is important.

The New York Islanders might not be the most talented team, but one thing they do have going for them is a positive goal differential.

Since this whole narrative is talking about doing things all the other great teams do, this one fits that agenda perfectly.

At the time of this writing, every team in the NHL that is in a playoff spot, besides two, and those two teams are only -1, have a positive goal differential.

All the teams that do not have a positive goal difference, aside from two, with the Islanders being one (as of this writing), have a negative goal differential.

Now, i understand this is a stat that changes every single day. Even just one bad game could change it significantly.

But, the goal differential is a stat that gets really high the more you win, the more you lose its gets really low.

If the Isles are a mediocre team, then it will go from positive to negative all year.

Right now, even after coming off a three goal loss to the Capitals, it is in the green with room to spare (+4).

That is a huge thing. Scoring goals and beating opponents by multiple goals each night are the signs of a good team.

As long as the Isles stay in the green and with a positive goal differential, by league standards, they will be one of those teams in a playoff spot when it’s all said and done.

Based on where things are now, an integral part of the season, if the Isles keep that number in the green, they will be a playoff team.

Of course, all this does not matter if they do not get their power play back, but I don’t feel like getting into that right now.
