New York Jets: Debating a left tackle vs an edge rusher in the draft
The Verdict
So what should the Jets do? How do they spend this likely high first round pick?
First of all, if Mike Maccagnan is still here, and he uses the pick on an interior defensive lineman, or a middle linebacker or any other position than the two we have discussed, it would be a fireable offense.
Let’s just get that out of the way right now.
Those who know me know that I am all about that left tackle. An offense is always driven by the play of their offensive line. If the offensive line is good the offense will perform as good or better than it should. If the line is bad, they will perform worse than they should.
That being said, if the Jets can get themselves into a position to draft Bosa they have to do it. The way a pass rusher like Bosa can flip the field for their young quarterback makes him to appealing to overlook.
If Bosa is gone, look to the tackle position. Don’t settle just for the sake of selecting an edge rusher. If you can’t get Bosa, protect the investment with a left tackle.
