Thoughts on Picking an Edge Rusher

An edge pass rusher. The Jets quest to acquire one via the draft or free agency has seemingly been as unending as the one for a quarterback.

Ever since John Abraham was sent away to Atlanta, the Jets have not found an apt replacement. Nobody can get to the quarterback on a consistent basis.

Mo Lewis got to double-digit sacks once. Shaun Ellis achieved the feat twice. Calvin Pace did it once. John Abraham did it three times in six years.

I think you get the idea. Wouldn’t it be nice to find a guy like that once again?

Nick Bosa is the name that is on everyone’s lips. He is the brother of NFL standout Joey Bosa. Nick has also posted 17.5 sacks in just over two years with Ohio State.

It is just over two years because Bosa suffered an abdominal injury three games into the 2018 season. As reported in USA Today, he will not return to Ohio State once he has recovered, instead concentrating on preparation for the NFL Draft.

The Jets are rapidly ascending to the top of this draft. Maybe they can move high enough to be able to draft Bosa.

A friend of mine, Dalbin Osorio, senior writer at Turn on the Jets, believes that the team simply needs to upgrade at center and that improvement will radiate along the rest of the line.

The argument could be made to finally get this type of playmaker.

There are the arguments. How would you handle the pick in the first round? Here is what I am thinking…
