Looking at the New York Jets over the bye week, we are looking at three examples of why Jeremy Bates should be stripped of his play calling duties.

3-7 is not exactly where the New York Jets hoped to be heading into the bye week. Even if they had only three wins, which was possible with a rookie quarterback, they certainly didn’t think they would be in THIS state with only three wins.

Over the last two weeks, to say that the season has gone off the rails would be putting it mildly. Progress seems to have stalled for Sam Darnold. The positives from early in the season have disappeared.

Basically, the Jets have not been able to get out of their own way, culminating in a 41-10 loss to the lowly Buffalo Bills just this past week.

Many of us were counting on saying adios to coach Todd Bowles. That didn’t happen and it appears that it won’t until the end of the season. Today is not the day for our opinions on that, as it is what it is.

The other member of the coaching staff that has come under fire has been offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. Most would agree that his play calling has been suspect. It has been unimaginative, and just not good enough to allow his offense to succeed.

I myself have called for the immediate removal of his duties as the play caller. There are other staff members that could call the plays, and it wouldn’t get any worse.

Tonight, we look at three of the many examples of this poor play calling.
