The New York Knicks are currently 4-10 on the year and they sit at the 12th spot in the East. So, with the Knicks currently struggling in a large way, what is the best possible outcome of the 2018-19 season?

With the New York Knicks currently holding the fourth worst record in the eastern conference it doesn’t look too promising for the remainder of the year.

Granted we are only 14 games into an 82 game season, but it doesn’t look too good nonetheless.

So with this being said what is the best possible outcome this year?

More from Empire Writes Back

For starters, we can nearly eliminate the playoffs.

Surely, a lot of things can change in 68 games but if the Knicks continue to play with this same roster until their star player Kristaps Porzingis comes back hopefully around the All-Star break, then not much will change.

This being said, the Knicks need to focus on improving for the future rather than hoping for the playoffs this year.

With the possibility of getting Jimmy Butler now non-existent, and Kyrie Irving making his commitment to the Boston fans, it looks like the Knicks will need to build their roster in other ways.

This is where the 2019 NBA Draft comes in.

The College Basketball season has only just started with most teams only playing two games thus far, but we have already gotten an idea of who will be atop the big board come June.

Some players such as RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, Cam Reddish, Nassir Little, Quentin Grimes and others look as if they will live up to the hype this year and look to be franchise changing talent.

If the Knicks can get their hands on any of these five players, or a handful of others such as Romeo Langford, then they would be trending up following the draft.

The first three players on that list; RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish, already look like they can make a significant impact on an NBA roster.

These three are playing together at Duke and they’re each putting up unheard of numbers:

RJ Barrett: 28.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.0 APG, 48.9 FG%, 37.5 3PT%

Zion Williamson: 27.5 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 3.0 APG, 3.5 BPG, 1.0 SPG, 81.5 FG%, 50.0 3PT%

Cam Reddish: 23.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 3.0 APG, 3.0 SPG, 42.9 FG%, 47.6 3PT%

If the Knicks can manage to be just bad enough to put themselves in the position to nag any of these three players then they will be in a good spot going forward.

RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish are three of the best players we’ve seen play college basketball in a long time, and the season has only just begun. If they continue to trend upward then they could be some of the best draft prospects we’ve seen in years.

If the Knicks continue to be bottom feeders then there is a good chance we see one of these three don the orange and blue in 2019-20.
