New York Islanders: Three stars of the season 15 games in
Thomas Greiss
Thomas Greiss has been arguably the most important and valuable player on the Islanders so far. When the other goalie of the Isles’ two-headed goalie monster, Robin Lehner, was out injured, Greiss stepped up huge for them.
Greiss has always kind of stepped up big for the Islanders, but really had a fall off last season where just about everyone else did too.
So far this season, Greiss has four wins, just two losses, and a goals against average of just 1.98.
He has only given up 15 goals total in his nine games played.
Despite his having the same number of wins as Lehner, he has stepped up the most this year because of when those wins came.
Stuffing Sidney Crosby on a breakaway was arguably the best thing Islander fans will see this year, but that is just part of it.

Greiss played well against the Penguins, who the Islanders have beaten twice this year, he beat the Hurricanes twice, and shutout the Devils.
Talk about winning games and stepping up big when it matters most. That is what Greiss has done so well this year.
It is easy to thank new goalies guru Mitch Korn, who came on as part of Barry Trotz’s hockey system, but Greiss is still the guy who is out on the ice.
He is the second star of the season so far despite playing fewer games than most.
After all, goalie is the most important position and he is making us realize that.
Again, that poke check on Sidney Crosby, yeah, that is worth being the second star alone.
