New York Islanders: Three stars of the season 15 games in
The Captain
Anders Lee‘s game has not changed much since being named the team captain just mere hours before the season started in Carolina.
Lee is a productive player who is coming off a 40 goal season.
However, it was easy to cautiously approach his expectations this season after the loss of a now Maple Leafs player who shall not be named in the offseason.
However, the Captain, and that feels awesome to say, is picking up right he left off. I’ll even argue he is doing more than he use to.
This season he has five goals, eight assists, to total 13 points.
He is averaging less than a point per game, which for a top line player might not be ideal but what is the reason he makes this list is one, he is still very productive, and two, he is great on the power play.
The Isles desperately needed to fix their special teams this offseason and it seems as if they have.
Lee’s ability to play in front of the net and not give up on rebounds is an asset all the time but already this season, he has four goals on the power play which is solid enough to lead the team right now.
It is his job to score on the power play. Those are supposed to be goals and nine times out of 10, that is the objective on a power play, to produce.
Lee still has plenty of room to score more goals, even at even strength and get the points per game total up.
But, he does not even need to because he is still the third star of the Isles’ season so far.
