Minor Leaguer Tim Tebow was promoted to Triple-A by New York Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen. While the Mets say Tebow is good enough to go to Triple-A, the reality is this is just a publicity stunt.

The New York Mets have promoted minor league star Tim Tebow. He will start the season next year with Triple-A Syracuse.

Tebow hit .273 with six home runs and 36 RBIs in 84 games this year with Double-A Binghamton. He even made the Eastern League All-Star team. However, a broken hamate bone in his right hand cut his season short in July.

Here’s what new Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen said about Tebow’s promotion, per Matt Ehalt of North Jersey.com:

More from Empire Writes Back

"“That’s a great next step for him,” Van Wagenen said. “We’re excited to get him back in camp and hopefully after a trip to Syracuse he’ll be able to prove to us and everybody in baseball that he can make an impact in the big leagues.”"

Van Wagenen added, via the Associated Press:

"“Given the hamate injury he had last year, his momentum was stopped. The goal is if he can pick that up in spring training and hopefully get off to a good start in Syracuse, then we’ll evaluate it when he’s ready.”"

Van Wagenen also told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com that if Tebow “Wows us” then he could possibly spend Opening Day in the majors.

While Tebow’s stats for this year aren’t bad, they aren’t good enough to get a promotion. He is definitely not even close to being ready to play in the majors.

So why did he get promoted?

Because Van Wagenen used to be his agent.

Tebow’s promotion is nothing more than a publicity stunt to bring in more fans.

ESPN’s Keith Law wrote in October 2016 that Tebow was a farce and that he looked like an imposter pretending to have talent that he doesn’t have.

In two seasons in the minors, Tebow is hitting .244 with a .686 OPS. The Mets were so bad this year that Tebow probably would have been called up in September if he wasn’t injured.

Mike Francesa of WFAN thinks that Van Wagenen should apologize for thinking that Tebow could be in the majors on opening day.

"“You’ve got to be kidding me! The Mets should be embarrassed. He should apologize to every Met fan for this. You know what? It’s even worse. You’re going to try to tell me that you’re going to build a team that’s going to be a championship team and Tim Tebow’s going to be on it? Go back to being an agent and leave us alone. Stop wasting our time.”"

Francesa added:

"“You want us to take you seriously or not?I mean, clown statements like that, we’re not going to take you seriously. You’re telling me Tim Tebow might be on your opening day roster? You’ve got room for him on your opening day roster? Why? Why? To try to get, what, a couple of extra people in the building for the second game of the season?”"

Francesa does have a point.

No one should take the Mets seriously as they are just a bunch of clowns.

They hired Van Wagenen, who was an agent for a couple of Mets players along with Tebow, as their new GM.

Now, they promote Tebow to Triple-A and say he could possibly be on the Opening Day roster.

Van Wagenen wants to make the Mets a playoff team again.

Does he think that Tebow could help the Mets make the playoffs?

Like I said before, Tebow isn’t ready for the majors and if Van Wagenen continues to make moves like what he did with Tebow, then he will fail.

The Mets think that Tebow is ready for Triple-A and possibly the majors. Don’t believe any of it because it’s just a publicity stunt.
