It’s the morning after the Sam  Darnold situation developed with the New York Jets. On several levels, it looks very bad for the franchise.

For as long as any of us have been fans, we have seen that the New York Jets have a unique ability to take situations and make them worse. Locker room problems, contracts and everything in between, situations seem to grow when they involve the Jets.

The worst we have seen in quite some time came yesterday with the Sam Darnold situation. We talked about it yesterday. Darnold is hurt, he will likely miss the game on Sunday and Todd Bowles says he wasn’t aware of it.

This looks bad on multiple levels. It looks very bad and reflects very badly on the New York Jets organization.

Darnold is being put in an impossible position due to no fault of his own.

As I wrote yesterday, Darnold said he was fine on Sunday, and said the same on Monday. Wednesday he showed up in a walking boot.

Does anyone really believe that Darnold sprained his foot on Sunday, fairly significantly, and nobody knew about it until Wednesday?

Many of you have probably sprained an ankle before. Do you not feel it right away? Or does it not hurt for three days?

It hurts. The same can be said for a foot, I’m sure.

Come on Bowles, Jets fans are far smarter than you are giving them credit for.

You knew all about it and you are covering by saying that you didn’t. You talk with all of your staff and your players. You knew.

The alternative is that Bowles really did have no idea, and that is shameful. If he did not consult with his staff members to find out he was hurt, the coach is being negligent. The buck stops with him.

If he didn’t know, he is wrong. If he did know and is lying, he is also wrong. Either scenario just pushes the narrative that he needs to be fired now, or at least during the bye week.

Next. Stop hating on Darnold. dark

Now that could be a more sinister plot in play here. Maybe, just maybe, this is a convenient story to sit Darnold for a week.

Think about it. He played poorly on Sunday, not all his fault but some was. He’s “fine” after the game and on Monday, then after a day off he is in a walking boot? It’s just not normal.

Most of the fan base, with some exceptions, has said that there is no point in benching Darnold anyway because it won’t help. But if they were going to, why in the world would they do it this way?

Making Darnold part of a ruse to be dishonest will without a doubt hurt his confidence. It is silly and simply isn’t necessary.

Unless, of course, you are the Jets. The silly and unnecessary have become a bit of a niche over the years.
