No Wide Receiver Separation

It was a tough day for Sam Darnold, but it wasn’t as if he got a lot of help.

The receivers simply had a tough time getting separation. Yes, Christopher Herndon did lead the team with 62 yards on four receptions. Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson made contributions in their respective returns from injury.

But, the separation wasn’t consistent. It’s not like receivers were running free all afternoon. Using the “eye test”, you never felt comfortable that Darnold was going to drive the team down the field the way the receivers were playing.

There were drops, but the biggest glaring flaw as the lack of separation.

Four interceptions were thrown by Darnold and that cannot be glossed over. But more than one occurred because Darnold was trying to make a play down the field. He wouldn’t have taken that tact if his weapons were getting open for him.

They come home to play Buffalo next week. It’s another winnable game and they are going to need it going into the bye week.
