New York Jets: Five reasons Todd Bowles needs to be fired
Sounds Defeated
Coaches need to remain positive that things can get better, but also be realistic about where things are. When they start to have difficulty finding things to lean on, it’s time to think about a replacement.
This is how Bowles is beginning to sound. Here is a quote from Bowles following the game, via Rich Cimini of ESPN:
"“I’m very proud of the way they fought and stayed together,” he said, relaying his postgame message to the players. “This was one of the first games the entire year we stayed together as a team and fought, collectively.”"
Cimini believes these are the words of a desperate man. To me, these are also the words of a man that knows he has been defeated. When all you have left is the fact that they tried hard, it’s time to get a new pair of eyes into town.
Here is an eerie comparison, Jets fans. You saw the quote above. Now take a look at this one:
"“I told [the team] that I was certainly proud of their efforts."
That second quote was from Rich Kotite in 1996. Everyone reading this knows how that season turned out.
If Todd Bowles is headed that way, we need to consider a change, and do it quickly.
