The New York Giants are under the delusion that Eli Manning can still get it done. However, they need face the facts and bench Eli in favor of Kyle Lauletta.

The New York Giants lost to the Washington Redskins on Sunday and Eli Manning was a part of that loss.

Now the question is when will the Giants make a quarterback change?

On Sunday, Giants fans chanted to have rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta replace Eli Manning. Hopefully, his recent arrest does not mean too much long-term pain on the Giants’ plan.

But regardless, Manning still has the support of the Giants front office and coach Pat Shurmur. Shurmur said on Monday that Eli is our quarterback, per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

"“Eli’s our QB. We’ve got to do what we can to help him be better. There’s a handful of plays where he needs to be better. That’s obvious.”"

If Eli is their quarterback, then you would assume that he would start the rest of the season.

However, Shurmur didn’t fully commit to Manning starting the Giants next game, telling Jordan Raanan of ESPN:

"“We’ll see. But, yeah, I think Eli is our quarterback. I did say, again I know what you’re all trying to tease a headline out of, at this point Eli is our quarterback and we’re looking at all areas to improve. So that is where it’s at.”"

Manning shouldn’t start the Giants next game or start any game for the rest of the season.

Eli should be benched for the rest of the season and Kyle Lauletta should start the rest of the season as soon as he is done facing whatever punishments get laid down on him for his recent antics.

Yes, Lauletta hasn’t been active for an NFL game yet and is making headlines for the wrong reasons, but the time has come for a quarterback change for the Giants.

Manning is 37, will turn 38 in January, and can no longer perform at a high-level.

He has thrown just eight touchdown passes this season and has been sacked 31 times, which is eight short of a career-high.

The Giants have lost 21 of 25 games going back to their playoff loss in 2016 and are averaging just 18.8 points a game. They are 1-7 and are tied with the San Francisco 49ers for the worst record in the NFL.

That’s why Lauletta needs to start the rest of the season and Eli needs to be benched.

Yes, I know that Lauletta hasn’t played in an NFL game yet, but the Giants have nothing to lose.

By starting Lauletta as much as they can, the Giants could see how good he is and whether or not they want him to be their future quarterback.

Lauletta could possibly help turn things around for the Giants and start heading them in the right direction. That won’t happen with Eli at quarterback.

Even Manning himself knows that it’s probably time for a change. He told Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News:

"“Hey, ya know, I’ve always been a team player and do(ne) kinda what I’m told. And I expect and want to be the starting quarterback until I’m told differently.”"

I wouldn’t be surprised if Eli starts the rest of the season since the team still believes in him.

But, the Giants need to stop being delusional and admit that its time for them to have a quarterback not named Eli Manning.

dark. Next. Giants would be wise to bring in Chad Kelly

They need the Kyle Lauletta situation to get resolved in a responsible way to make the rest of the season watchable because things won’t get better with Eli as the quarterback.
