Buffalo Bills: As the Bills prepare for game vs Patriots, things couldn’t possibly be worse
The Buffalo Bills find themselves in a normal situation as they get ready to face the Patriots. They are the massive underdogs and stand little to no chance. Things are bad, couldn’t be worse actually.
The Buffalo Bills turned a playoff berth last season and seemingly overnight turned it into the 2-5 absolute mess we are seeing now.
The Bills, once again, spent the first half of an NFL season shooting themselves in the foot and surrounding themselves with almost no offensive competence whatsoever.
Now, the usual miserable ride of the Bills’ season hits its peak.
The Bills get ready to host the Patriots. What is normally a brutal blowout on any given day, is now on ESPN in primetime for the world to see.
Just how bad will the Bills embarrass themselves?
That is yet to be determined. However, we do know is things are off to a good start.
I went ahead and asked Bills fans who they wanted to see start at quarterback for the Monday night game.
Derek Anderson is indeed starting, but the question asked who Bills fans wanted to and the answer is impressively depressing.
What stinks about this is all is the choices.
I agree that the answer that Derek Anderson should be the answer, but the fact that he was even a choice is sad enough in itself.
Also, the fact that even voting for Nathan Peterman to start an NFL game wouldn’t have been that irrational in this circumstance speaks volumes.
This question is like making someone choose between a butter or plastic knife as the weapon of choice in a gun fight.
It does not matter at that point.
The worst part about this all is the fact that even if the dubbed ‘future QB’ Josh Allen didn’t have an injury in his throwing elbow, the opposition is still Tom Brady and the Patriots.
No Bills QB has ever been able to beat the Patriots since Brady took over. That is unless you count Kyle Orton, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Drew Bledsoe.
So, maybe those names on that list are more similar to Derek Anderson than Josh Allen would be. But, it goes beyond that.
Even if the Bills shock the world and beat even the spread against the Patriots, it will not matter. Having Derek Anderson be the best CHOICE at QB will catch up to them as the season progresses.
He was the best option off the streets in the entire league.
The Bills literally signed him with the intention of not playing him. I guess this start, like the last one against Indianapolis last week, is what he gets for being better than Nathan Peterman.
Things for the Bills couldn’t be worse, but they also don’t make much of a difference I guess.
Every time the Bills prepare to play the Pats the optimism is gone. no matter what below average QB is playing for the Bills.
Maybe it wouldn’t feel so bad if the Bills were not coming off a five, yes, five point performance. Or maybe things would be better if this was the first Josh Allen vs Tom Brady battle.
But, things are just gloomy.
What is even worse is that at halftime the Bills are officially retiring Thurman Thomas’ number in what will be an emotional ceremony.
The problem with that is why this game?
The Bills still have to play Jets and Dolphins at home so they could have kept the division rival thing going.
The Bills also play the Lions, Jaguars, and Bears, at home this year.
But, for some reason, the Bills decided to pick the only completely non-winnable game to honor one of their greatest players.
Even if there are certain rules or business decisions behind that, it is still going to be tough to care that much about the ceremony if the Bills of today are getting pummeled at the half.
The product is not good. I can’t even look forward to the Thurman Thomas ceremony.
I’m too worried about how bad the Bills will be embarrassing themselves.
Things are dark in Buffalo, the fans even know to just take it at this point.
Here are some of the replies to the Twitter poll:
I’m glad there is still some sense of humor left.
It actually is funny how bad the Bills have butchered their QB situation up to this point.
Like I said, even if the Bills do win, Derek Anderson is still not good and the Patriots can worry about it in the offseason after their playoff games.
Actually, maybe things could be worse right now.
This could end up being LeSean McCoy‘s last game as a Bills with the trade deadline being Tuesday, that would be a shame.
The Bills could be winless at this point and even more of a laughing-stock.
Or, I guess things could be worse because Nathan Peterman could be the one starting instead of Derek Anderson.
Being content with Derek Anderson starting. That is a real feeling.
See the problem?
But, who cares because no matter what happens, Bills fans are so loyal they will be back to just take it week after week for the rest of the season and beyond.
Josh Allen has to come back at some point I guess. The defense can still win them another game or two.
So, a 56-0 nothing Patriots win is only the beginning of my predictions for this game.
I am expecting nothing from the Bills and will somehow still be let down.
But, hey, Go Bills, am I right?
