New York Giants: Game vs Redskins is all about Saquon Barkley
Even a New York Giants win this Sunday vs the Redskins wouldn’t mean that much, but a win for Saquon Barkley over the Redskins does mean something.
The New York Giants and Washington Redskins once again square off this Sunday, but this time the real story is not the team’s it is in Saquon Barkley vs Adrian Peterson.
This Sunday, the Giants and Redskins face off once again. The game only means something for the Redskins, who are trying to stay atop the division, and almost nothing for the Giants. They are only playing for pride and dignity.
Even if the Giants win they will still be 2-6, 1-2 in the division and the playoffs are still well out of reach.

So, in terms of the team’s it is the same story on a different day. The game has almost no division implications.
What is going to happen on Sunday will be the battle, which might never happen again beyond this year, between Saquon Barkley and Adrian Peterson.
Peterson is one of the most decorated running backs in NFL history. Saquon Barkley would be lucky to fulfill his potential and become that generational back, like Peterson.
So, when the Giants and Redskins square off, all eyes should be glued on how well the teams can use their talents out of the backfield.
Even going into the matchup the Redskins back had some high praise for the Giants star rookie.
Peterson told John Keim of ESPN:
"“I always sit back and watch young guys when they come in and he’s [Barkley] one of those guys that really excites me.”"
Peterson is excited to square up against Barkley and Giants fans should be excited to see it.
It is not often that a running back at the tail end of their illustrious career gets to play against a running back that is just in the beginning of theirs.
With another great game vs the Redskins, Barkley can cement his place as one of the best in the league and one of the top guys to watch for years to come.
If he outplays Peterson, who is a big part of the Redskins’ offense this season, then it would be a passing of the torch type of moment.
This game not only means something for Peterson, who thinks highly of Barkley, but it means something to the young Saquon too.
He told Matt Lombardo of nj.com that he would love to trade jersey’s with Peterson after the game:
"“I’m not going to lie. That would be pretty cool, if I was able to trade jerseys with Adrian Peterson, but, you never know.”"
So, in a season where a lot has gone to nothing, and the Giants will enter the halfway point and external and internal mess, Saquon Barkley is the one thing to keep watching.
His progress and special playmaking ability will never expire as the Giants’ season does.
So, where there is not a lot to cheer for, and not many things to hope for, this Week 8 game vs the Redskins still means something because it means something to Saquon Barkley.
