New York Mets: Profiling the finalists for general manager
Doug Melvin
We go from the youngest candidate to the oldest one. Doug Melvin is the oldest of the group of finalists, coming in at the ripe old age of 66.
Melvin has GM experience with both Texas and Milwaukee. His work still shows on the Brewers, those same Brewers that came up one game short of the World Series here in 2018.
He is also an analytics guy, and has an extensive background in scouting and player development. Fred Wilpon is said to be a fan of this type of candidate.
That statement may not excite Mets fans too much but there it is, for what it’s worth.
I know it’s hedging, but I see value in each of these three candidates. Each one can bring a different element to potentially improve the Mets both now and in the future.
We will see soon enough how this will turn out.
