Chaim Bloom

Bloom is the youngest of the Mets finalists at just 35 years old. He is the Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Tampa Bay Rays.

He was a finalist for the same position with the Phillies in 2015. He has also interviewed for the Twins. He turned down an interview with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bloom handles much of the contract duties, with one of the bigger ones he handled in Tampa Bay being Wilson Ramos. He is familiar with all aspects of the job, including player development and scouting philosophy, all from his time in Tampa.

His philosophy is analytics-driven, which is what the Mets like and what Mets fans like. Stats and sabermetrics are the wave of the day and the Mets need a guy that is on top of this concept.

Bringing on a young man to the job isn’t the worst idea. Theo Epstein became the general manager of the Red Sox at age 29 and everyone saw how that turned out.

Obviously we can’t guarantee that Bloom will be as good as Epstein was but the idea of bringing in a guy that is young and hungry to the do the job isn’t the worst.

It could work out very well.
