Buyers Beware: The New York Giants fire sale has begun
By Kyle Morello
After starting the 2018 season 1-6, the New York Giants fire sale has officially kicked into gear.
The New York Giants are officially all-in… on the 2019 NFL Draft.
First it was the Eli Apple trade.
The Giants traded the third year cornerback out of Ohio State to the New Orleans Saints for a 2019 fourth-round draft pick and a 2020 seventh-round draft pick.

Then, they traded former Pro Bowl run stopper Damon “Snack” Harrison to the Detroit Lions for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick.
Just six months after deciding to go all-in on the 2018 season, Dave Gettleman and the Giants front office is already blowing it up again just halfway through the season.
How did this season become such a failure in all aspects of the word?
Well, it was a combination of a lot of factors. Nothing says more about a lost season, which is where this season is heading, than a systematic failure to evaluate the talent you have on your roster.
This is exactly what happened with the Giants front office this offseason.
When the new regime of Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur came in, they probably thought that this roster was a few healthy players away from competing last season and that the talent was there to make a run this year.
So, instead of kick starting a rebuild and draft a franchise quarterback second overall in last years draft, the decided to go with a generational running back and stick with their 37 year-old quarterback.
Now, that’s nothing against Saquon Barkley he’s been nothing short of fantastic this season.
But, they misevaluated where they are as a franchise and thought they were in a position where Barkley was the missing piece.
Let’s face it, Eli Manning isn’t good anymore. Is it 100% his fault that he has no time to pass the ball?
No, because the offensive line is just as atrocious as he has been.
The defense hasn’t been much better either, but the offense not being able to get anything going most of the time certainly doesn’t help.
The team is an overall failure this season and something needed to be done about it.
It is a shame for Giants fans to have to go through this after starting the season with high expectations.
But, with the trades of Eli Apple and Damon “Snacks” Harrison, it is clear that the rebuild has begun.
The question no longer remains when will the fire sale happen, it’s who’s next?
