Take the win-loss record and throw it out the window because that is not what it is about with the New York Knicks right now.

The New York Knicks are just a mere four games into the David Fizdale era/2018-2019 season. The results at the end of 48 minutes have not been there, but the progress has been there.

David Fizdale’s brand is to mix it up and get the most out of his players. And despite three losses, the Knicks have done exactly that.

The Knicks all year have played close. They have shown a pulse in every game this year including a loss to the Celtics. That loss was only two points.

The loss before that was also only by two points to the Nets.

In their most recent game vs the Bucks in Milwaukee, they were once down by almost 20 yet gave the Bucks are run for their money in the second half.

So, to more efficiently sum it up, that is a total of four games, one win vs the Hawks on opening night, two one bucket losses, and a dog-fight that came down to the final minutes in a different time zone.

That is progress from the Knicks we have seen in the recent past. Yes, it is early, but that is still a major takeaway.

The Knicks are also progressing because of how well everyone is playing. Trey Burke is getting starts. Frank Ntilikina is getting solid reps in his starts.

Fizdale just got great minutes from Mario Hezonja of all people.

The real leaders of the ship right now are fresh faces in terms of that job. Tim Hardaway Jr. has led the Knicks in scoring so far and the team is getting an impressive double-double from Enes Kanter each night.

Overall, they have are still failing to win division games and are overall not getting optimal results.

But, at the end of the day, they are spreading the wealth and losing in games that have been fun to watch and close.

They have a pulse and will eventually start having games go their way as long as they keep it up.

The production balance is fool-proof and the schedule gets easier after their mini road trip wraps up in Miami on Wednesday.

Let’s not forget the Knicks are doing all of this without Kevin Knox, who is slated to miss some time with an injured ankle, and their only star player Kristaps Porzingis, who still has no return date, but will be back.

Once the Knicks can start getting healthy, and this core of players can start learning how to win these close games, the results will come.

Right now, just let them explode one-quarter then become stagnant the next.

The Knicks are finally showing progress early in the season. Things might not be close to ideal right now, but they are better.

That has not been felt in a long time with this team.
