New York Giants wide receiver Odell  Beckham Jr. says he respects and values Giants co-owner John Mara’s opinion and need to do better.

Earlier this week New York Giants co-owner John Mara made headlines by saying that Odell Beckham Jr. should be making headlines for his play on the field instead of making headlines off the field. Beckham’s father took a shot at Mara by posting a video on Instagram of Mara knocking over a chair in his box at a game last year.

Here’s what Odell Sr. wrote in that Instagram post, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk

“REALLY!? Is that owner Mara picking up a chair and throwing it!! Oh my the tree is acting like the Apple!!! . . . He’s mad at how Odell is acting so HE DOES THE SAME??! You couldn’t make this up if you tried!!”

On Friday when asked about Mara’s comments Beckham said that he respects and values Mara’s opinion.

"“I respect and value his opinion. That’s what we’re gonna do: Focus on Atlanta right now. That’s really it. I’m ready to talk about the Atlanta Falcons and that’s really it. That’s the focus right now. We need to start winning games. I feel that. I want to win, too, just as bad as anybody else. That’s really it, I just wanna win.”"

In a recent interview with ESPN Beckham questioned how much of the teams struggles were quarterback Eli Manning’s fault. There had been reports that there were doubts in the locker room about Eli’s ability. Beckham denied that there were any doubts in the locker room, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

"“I think that we’re 1-5 and we need to start winning games. Everybody needs to pick it up. I need to play better. I can’t say that I’ve had my best game. I can’t say I’ve done enough to help this team win and I need to do more. Everybody needs to do more. Everybody has to pick it up. We win games together, we lose them together. There is no other way around it. It’s a team sport.”"

Odell is right, everyone on the team needs to do better. The Giants are 1-5 and won’t be in the playoffs this year. The Giants are averaging just 19.5 points through six games, which puts them 27th in the NFL. OBJ, who signed a $95 million contract extension in August, has 45 catches for 506 yards but only one touchdown and Manning has thrown for only 1,662 yards and six touchdowns with four interceptions.

That kind of performance isn’t going to win games. Everyone on the team needs to step up their game if the Giants are to win any game and Manning knows this. Eli told Eric Barrow and Andy Clayton of the New York Daily News:

"“You’re not winning games, everybody has to play better. I understand that. I’ve got to play better. It’s just everybody raising their level of play. Everybody being that much more focused, and doing their assignments. … Going out there and executing in practice and executing on game day. That’s what it’s going to take to get back to winning games.”"

The entire Giants team needs to be listing to Beckham and Manning and play better. Otherwise they won’t win any more games this year,
