New York Knicks: Preseason recap and 2018-19 season outlook
The New York Knicks will kick-off their 2018-19 campaign as they take on the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday night. But, what will their season look like and what did their 3-2 preseason record tell us?
The New York Knicks wrapped up their 2018 preseason with a 3-2 record beating the Wizards, Nets and Pelicans and losing to the Wizards and Nets.
The Knicks have one of the more interesting storylines this season seeing they are without their star player for a portion of the year.
Without Kristaps Porzingis the starting lineup has just been a big question mark but on Tuesday, we were given some answers.

It was announced that the Knicks first round pick, Kevin Knox would open the season from the bench while second year guard, Frank Ntilikina would get the start with two other guards.
The Knicks will start the season with a starting lineup which consists of Trey Burke, Frank Ntilikina, Tim Hardaway Jr., Enes Kanter and Lance Thomas.
A bit surprising seeing the Knicks took Knox with their ninth pick and he impressed many in the preseason.
Nonetheless, Kevin Knox will start from the bench but he will likely see many minutes as the Knicks attempt to give their rookie some experience.
But, what does the Knicks 3-2 preseason tell us about what the 2018-19 season holds for the Knicks?
Well based on the preseason, we see that the Knicks will have a ton of games that will come down to the final two minutes of the game, and some will go their way, while others will not.
The three games the Knicks won were by a combined score of 337-323.
Three wins by a margin of +14 so almost five points per game. This being said, you can expect the Knicks to play tight games this year.
Another thing the preseason showed us, is that the Knicks are horribly inconsistent. The Knicks played the Nets and Pelicans twice a piece, they split the two games with both teams.
The first time the Knicks laced up against the Wizards they scored 124 points while the second time around they scored a mere 98.
If the Knicks want any shot of making the playoffs come April, then they will need to get more consistent, and learn how to play without Kristaps Porzingis.
Finally, we saw that the Knicks two draft picks are legit.
Mitchell Robinson only played three games due to an ankle injury which he has since recovered from.
However, in those three games Robinson put up 15 points and 13 rebounds in the 43 minutes he played in.
If he is given the opportunity to play, then you can expect these numbers to only go up.
Kevin Knox, meanwhile, put up a double-double against the Pelicans when he scored 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
In 2018-19, you can expect to see both Mitchell Robinson and Kevin Knox quite a bit as the Knicks prepare their team for the future.
2018-19 Season Prediction:
In 2018-19, the New York Knicks will finish 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 32-50 record.
Even without Kristaps Porzingis for what could be several months, the Knicks will slightly improve upon their 2017-18 mark of 29-53.
With the additions of Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson off the bench, plus a full season of Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay and with Frank Ntilikina bulking up and improving his game, the Knicks are looking up.
If Porzingis returns before the All-Star Break, this number could go up a tad to as much as 35 wins or so, but it won’t go up too much.
The New York Knicks have potential, but they are a couple of years and another star player away from being a contender in the East.
