After six starts for Sam  Darnold, we are taking a look at the New York Jets rookie and comparing him to some top starting quarterbacks from this era.

New York Jets fans could not have asked for anything more. The team is 3-3 after six games and their rookie quarterback is improving each and every game.

This past week against the Colts, Sam Darnold had his best game as a pro, going 24-30 through the air for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

His ability to rebound from mistakes is uncommon from rookie quarterbacks, and especially uncommon from recent quarterbacks that have led the Jets.

We don’t have to rehash these players. They tried hard.

Darnold hasn’t been perfect, we know that. But he has gotten better and better and clearly is the leader of this team and will be for years to come.

Let’s look at his numbers to date:

  • 107-179, 59.8% completion percentage, 1,346 yards, nine touchdowns, seven interceptions, 3-3 record

When analyzing the stats it is important to look at the record, just as it is to look at the rest of the stats. A quarterback is ultimately judged on how he leads his team and that means victories.

Today we are going to compare Sam to other recent, prominent starting quarterbacks. Specifically we are going to compare Darnold’s first six starts to the first six starts of these other players.

This is not to say that Darnold is currently at the level of these players. It’s just a look to see where he stands at this point in his career.
