New York Jets: Three to watch vs the Indianapolis Colts
Darius Leonard
Something that has been a challenge of the Jets over the first five games is protecting the young Sam Darnold. The Jets offensive line has had its moments of stardom and its moments of not so much.
Darius Leonard was the second round pick of the Colts in the 2018 draft. Ironically this was NOT one of the picks traded to the Colts by the Jets for the pick that became Sam Darnold.
Leonard has been a force off of the edge, with four sacks in four games as a rookie. He has added 54 tackles, two passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Brandon Shell and Kelvin Beachum will have another test on their hands. As established pros they should be able to keep this guy out of the picture but we can never count on this offensive line.
If Leonard is able to cause problems, the Colts will cause problems for New York. Darnold must be protected or it will be a long day.
The Jets have had some success against the Colts. Let’s see if it continues.
