For the first time since 2012-2013, the New Jersey Devils enter a season coming off a playoff berth. However, things are still far from complete with this team. So, what are the biggest concerns this season?

The New Jersey Devils have something this season they have never had before, the MVP of the NHL.

However, what they also have is a lot of young talent that will be struggling to get back to the heights they reached last season.

The Devils overcame a lot of injuries last season, including one to their goaltender, Cory Schneider.

They also had to part ways with Adam Henrique early in the season.

However, the Devils overcame every obstacle that stood in their way last year to sneak into the playoffs where they were pounced by the Lightning in the Conference quarterfinals.

What is most interesting about the Devils this season is that they kept the band together. The Devils are one of few teams that were truly carried by a young core of talented players with success.

The Devils, barely made any moves in the offseason to change the course of their rebuild. They mostly re-signed their players. Players like Eddie Lack, Steven Santini, and Miles Wood.

Along with that, the Devils still have Nico Hischier, Hall, Jesper Bratt, Keith Kinkaid, Will Butcher, and Kyle Palmieri just to name a few.

So, the Devils didn’t change the way they want to play hockey at all. Rather, they didn’t even let the playoff season stop them from their original plan.

The Devils barely gave up assets to get better last deadline, only slightly did, which paid off.

The Devils are back this season with the same plan as last year, with only slightly higher expectations. It is still John Hynes hockey, and Ray Shero still has his vision.

So, if those are the early observations of the Devils that are unquestioned, what are some questions going into this season?

Let’s dive in!
