New York Knicks: Say goodbye to the chance of signing Kyrie Irving
Well, you can officially say goodbye to the possibility of Kyrie Irving coming to the New York Knicks and calling Madison Square Garden his home in 2019.
On Thursday night ,the Boston Celtics held a FanFest event which featured Kyrie Irving, Al Horford and Gordon Hayward, but New York Knicks fans might not like what happens next.
What the Boston fans heard surprised them in a great way, and broke the hearts of Knicks fans.
While talking to the crowd at TD Garden Kyrie Irving told the crowd: “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing.”
There had been rumors dating back to his request out of Cleveland that Kyrie Irving would one day call Madison Square Garden as a member of the New York Knicks.
The dream for Knicks fans was to add Jimmy Butler and Kyrie Irving to the team to make them a threat in the East and the NBA in general.
With the recent news about Jimmy Butler, it doesn’t look like he will be playing in New York anytime soon either.
This being said. the Knicks will likely lose out on their two top targets going into the 2019 offseason.
But, what does this mean for the 2019-20 season and the Knicks going forward?
Well, obviously, this means that New York is not that attractive for the top talent. Unfortunately, this might not be what you want to hear but lets look at the facts.
The Knicks didn’t sign a single top free agent over the course of the 2018 offseason, and their top move outside of the draft in the offseason was signing a new head coach.
Jimmy Butler named the Knicks as one of the three teams he wanted to play for but then a week later said he wanted to be a member of the Miami Heat.
The Knicks could not even bring Michael Beasley back as he decided to leave New York and migrate west where he signed with the Lakers.
These facts, plus more, makes it look as if no one wants to play in New York.
With this being said, it’s going to be a long couple of years and unless Kevin Knox can sprout into the player the Knicks are hoping he will, the Knicks won’t be attracting any top talent, any time soon.
