New York Giants: Giants won’t make playoffs if offense doesn’t improve
By Alex Jordan
After going 3-13 last year, the New York Giants have started this year 1-3. There needs to be some major improvements with the offense if they want to make the playoffs.
After the New York Giants drafted running back Saquon Barkley in this year’s draft, there was a lot of hope that the Giants would have a successful season despite going 3-13 last year. However that’s not the case as they are 1-3 after losing to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Before the season began, I wrote that the Giants could make the playoffs this year. Now four game into the season, it’s safe to say that the Giants won’t make the playoffs this year.
The only way Big Blue will make the playoffs this year is if the offense gets better and gets better immediately.
The offense has been the Giants biggest problem this season. If it doesn’t get fixed immediately, then the Giants will have another losing season.

Coach Pat Shurmur told Dan Salomone of Giants.com that they have to coach better and make more plays. Shurmur added:
"“You just keep working. You just keep working and you play your way out of it and you coach your way out of it. Period. That’s what you do, and that’s the reality of it, and that’s what I trust our guys and our coaches will do.”"
What the Giants need to work on is their offense.
While it’s easy to put all the blame quarterback Eli Manning for the struggles, he’s only part of the problem. Manning is declining as he’s thrown for 1,055 yards and just four touchdowns and has a passer rating of 99.1.
Odell Beckham Jr. became the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, but has struggled and hasn’t scored a touchdown yet this season.
OBJ is reaching his breaking point as he told Zach Braziller of the New York Post that he’s frustrated and that it shouldn’t be this hard to win games.
"“I’m doing everything I can. I put my all into this. I have sacrificed everything, especially coming into this year. I have sacrificed and made personal changes, doing all I can to be the best teammate and bring everything that I can every Sunday. It’s disappointing when you have to leave [the stadium] like this. You work way too hard five or six days a week for 60 minutes of football. I hate to get out there and waste those 60 minutes.”"
The only bright spot for the Giants offense this season has been rookie running back Saquon Barkley, who is living up to the hype that was surrounding him before the season started.
Barkley leads the team with 46 carries for 216 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 21 catches for 137 yards.
If the Giants want to make the playoffs this year, then they have to get Beckham in the end zone and fix their other offensive issues. If that doesn’t happen, the Giants will miss the playoffs for the fourth time in OBJ’s five-year career.
By the way, Tiki Barber went to the playoffs five times in 10 years with the Giants and Michael Strahan went to the playoffs seven times in 15 years with Big Blue.
The Giants offense needs to get much better fast otherwise they will be watching the playoffs from the sidelines.
