New York Yankees: Luke Voit continues to be everything that the Yankees hoped for
When the New York Yankees traded Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos to the Cardinals, nobody would have guessed the outcome, not even Luke Voit.
On July 29th, 2018, the New York Yankees traded relievers Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos to the St. Louis Cardinals. What they got in return was supposed to be nothing big.
Well, it turned into international bonus pool money. Oh, and someone whose name you now probably know, Luke Voit.
Voit, 27, was originally just called up as the extra right-handed bat for the first series against the Red Sox after the Yankees traded for him, but he was sub par offensively, so they sent him back down.

Since he started mashing in Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, they called him back up. It was the right decision.
He has turned into one of the best hitters in baseball since being recalled back from AAA , and is overall slashing .333/.405/.689 with the Yankees with an outstanding 14 home runs and 33 RBI’s.
This is after slashing .182/.308/.455 with one home run and three RBI’s with the Cardinals.
Voit’s success at the plate as of late has led to certain players on the team losing, or in some player’s cases having no at-bats.
For instance, Greg Bird, who has struggled himself this season, has lost the majority of his at-bats due to Voit’s success, Neil Walker’s consistency, and the clog at DH depending on the day.
Also, Tyler Wade and Ronald Torreyes, players who would have expected to receive at-bats when they were called up, have seamlessly lost them due to Walker’s status as a super-utility man, Voit, and the infield jam.
Heading into the playoffs, Voit will get the start at first base night in and night out, no matter the matchup.
Due to that scenario, there is a chance that Greg Bird may get left off the playoff roster based on what Aaron Boone wants to do. Will he bring Adeiny Hechavarria and Wade/Torreyes? Will he bring an extra pitcher?
Well, whatever Boone does, we know that Luke Voit has been much more than the Yankees’ fans have expected, and exactly what the Yankees wanted.
