The Yoenis Cespedes stuff

By far the weirdest/messiest saga of 2018 was the Yoenis Cespedes injury stuff. At first he was out then came back. Then he needed surgery. Then he didn’t. Now, here we are months later with essentially zero timetable on when he will be back.

But, that’s just it.

In 2018, as we pile up the takeaways from the season, we must not forget, Yoenis Cespedes is still a New York Met.

Whether he wants to be or should be is a different story for a different day.

But, perhaps no one had a worse 2018 season than the man who carried the Mets to a division title just a few short season ago.

His actual season this year was limited to just 38 games. That is basically missing the entire season.

Luckily for the Mets, Conforto and Nimmo were anchors in the outfield while he was gone, and they will be the same in 2019.

The question the Mets need to ask themselves is if they really need Cespedes or not. There is not much they can do at this point, but it is something to consider.

Basically, by the end of 2018, Yoenis Cespedes was an after thought. There were just too many other things to worry about.

But he is still a Met, let us not forget. He was in 2018 despite rarely playing.
